1001 hp for 2003 Bugatti Veyron! by Alex Michalas When we visited the 2000 Paris Motorshow in September we were happy
to learn that the Bugatti Veyron was confirmed for production with the VW Group's W16 engine that was expected to be producing around 650 hp.We are now thrilled to learn (in the 2001 Geneva Motorshow
) that the Veyron will reach the production line towards the end of 2003 powered by the W16 engine getting a supercharger and producing… 1001 hp (yes this is one thousand and one) ! Our
sources also suggest that there will be a more "normal" 800 hp version on offer. We can't help wondering about the levels of performance that 1001 hp will bring to the car. Just
consider that current supercar-heroes like the McLaren F1
and Ferrari F50 are doing the trick with
"only" around 650 hp and it becomes clear that they Veyron could very well be the fastest production car ever!Life is getting quite repetitive for us lately then! We just end up writing every once and again about how
much the supercar war is set to become very hot really soon with mad new supercars scheduled to be released in the next few years by well-known makers as well as by new innovative companies.
Whoever said the supercar is dead?
Talk about all that in the FantasyCars.com MessageBoard. Will the Bugatti Veyron become the ultimate supercar?
