Lamborghini: New Diablo is Coming! by Alex Michalas We definitely believe that Lamborghini's upcoming replacement of the Diablo is the most highly anticipated model of 2001. In fact, we have just received new information about Diablo's
replacement and we just have to keep you up to date:
To be named the Canto, the first Lamborghini of the 21st century is set to be launched in this year's
Frankfurt Motor Show in September. It will be heavily based on the latest Diablo 6.0 VT - something that hints for a 4wd drivetrain. The 6.0 lt. V12 from the VT will be powering the Canto, with an
expected output very close to 600 hp, after the revisions that Lamborghini engineers are currently carrying out on it. Lamborghini sources have also confirmed that an all-new 6 speed gearbox is
currently being developed with the intention have it ready by the car's launch. Design-wise the Canto will keep the legendary Lamborghini character. The pictures we are showing here are the latest spyshot of the Canto and an illustration of what seems like the most likely
look of the car when it is unveiled this September.
Expected performance figures are 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 330 km/h (205 mph). The price should be similar to the Diablo.
Finally, Lamborghini designers and engineers are working closely with a design and engineering team from Audi (remember of course that VW owns both Lamborghini and Audi) in order to have a second
new Lamborghini ready for a late 2002/early 2003 release. This car is set to be a smaller, less extreme car powered by an all-new V10 engine.
Great news then for all Lamborghini fans - the legendary Italian maker is preparing a full-on assault to challenge Ferrari in the 21st century. For the time being you can click here and have your say on the Canto in the FantasyCars.com MessageBoard. |
