MG X80 Looking Really Promising! by Traian Popescu With the recent purchase of Qvale Modena, MG will re-invent and re-design the Mangusta as the X80, a 2-door sports car available next
year both as a coupe and a roadster. The X80 was shown to the world for the first time in Frankfurt. It will (probably) spearhead the return of MG to the US, using different versions of the 4.6L V8
mill found both in both the Mangusta and Ford SVT Cobra. Coupled to either manual or automatic transmissions and driving the rear wheels, this powerplant produces between 250hp and 385hp in its various trims. The top-of-the line engine is shared with the ZT XPower 385 4-door sedan. The structure is composed of a super-formed aluminium body mounted to a steel box section chassis, also based on the Mangusta.
The exterior styling of the entire new MG range is the work of Peter Stevens, also responsible for the McLaren F1. Other features include electronic traction control, a limited slip differential, ABS and 18 inch
alloy wheels. British customers can expect a (hefty) price tag of about £50,000. Let's hope the new MGs will appear on the side of the pond as well!
