Mad 300hp Ford Focus Unveiled! by Alex Michalas

It was only a week ago in the British Motorshow that we first saw the new 200hp Focus RS and here comes an even more extreme Focus: The 300 hp Ford Racing Focus!
Powered by the same 2.0lt turbocharged engine that is used in the Focus RS, the new Ford Racing Focus has 300hp driving the front wheels only - something that makes it one of the most powerful front wheel
drive production cars ever!
The are radical styling changes over the standard humble Focus as well. The rear part of the car has
been redesigned and, in order to make room for the huge rear spoiler, the rear lights have been moved lower than their original position. The car itself is said to be a pure racing machine ready to take
to the track as soon as it leaves the showroom. Performance figures have not been confirmed but the car should hit 60mph from standstill in less than 5 seconds - even despite the
traction problems that 300hp driving only the front wheels can cause. The suspension and brakes are also said to be directly derived from racing versions of the Focus.
The Racing Focus is a really important car as it, once again, shows Ford's renewed commitment to producing really hot versions of its rather normal mainstream
cars. Also, the fact that the car will go on sale in both the US and Europe signals probably the first time that a manufacturer enters the American market with such a high-powered front wheel drive car.
All in all it seems that Ford has seriously upped its game lately! We can't wait for the next hot project they come up with after the Racing Puma, the Focus RS and now the Racing Focus. In fact, a 4x4
version of the Racing Focus bearing the Cosworth name should come really soon. What do you think of the new Ford Racing Focus? How does this huge spoiler look? Is Ford really up to something here? Click here and discuss all these and more in our MessageBoard! |
