New Grinnall Scorpion IV is a Pocket Rocket!
by Alex Michalas he

Here comes another world debut from the British Motorshow! What we have here is the Grinall Scorpion IV - a truly minimalist sports car concept.

Grinall Specialist Cars is a small British company that has been producing radical sportscars since 1982. Following on the recent unveiling of the Scorpion III which is a mad 3-wheeled machine capable of beating most supercars in speed and (definitely) thrills, here comes the Scorpion IV which is effectively just adding one more wheel to the equation and raises the thrills even more!

The Scorpion IV is powered by a Fiat 2.0 lt. 4-cylinder turbo engine, producing 220 hp and 228 lb.ft of torque. The company says that it is enough to propel the sub-650kg car to 60mph in under 4 seconds and give it a top speed of around 150mph.

The sophisticated suspension and super stiff space frame chassis endow the Scorpion with exceptional handling and road holding characteristics.

With a price of 25,000 pounds ($35,000) the Scorpion simply offers supercar beating performance in the fraction of a supercar's price. Orders are currently being taken and deliveries should start in 2001.

Here is a very credible new rival for the minimalist sportscar market then – a market that includes the likes of the Caterham 7 and the, Lotus Elise -based, 340R. A market that we really love - pure driving machines that provide the ultimate thrills and nothing more. Can you think of anything better in an era when more and more of the world's supercars are going soft in the name of "safety"?

Expect much more about such real driving machines from FantasyCars.com in the very near future!
