Lamborghini Unveils New Hot Diablos! A storming Lamborgini road-racer is tipped to go into production as part of a return to GT racing by the Italian supercar
manufacturer. The Diablo GTR prototype shows all the hallmarks of a supercar made for the track. It has a roof-mounted race-style air intake and a massive rear wing to provide added downforce.
Parent company Audi is currently on a high following
its resounding 1-2-3 open-top sports car victory at the Le Mans 24-Hours classic last month, and rumours suggest the German giant may now attempt to mount an assault on the GT scene, possibly
through its links with Lamborghini.
Meanwhile, the Italian outfit has scaled down its road-going Diablo - photograph - range to a 200mph
farewell model, powered by an uprated version of a 6.0-litre V12 engine pushing out a thunderous 550bhp. The GTR uses the same 48-valve unit, but it's
now claimed to produce a storming 590bhp, increasing the top speed to 210mph. Acceleration has improved, too; the 0-60mph sprint is over in an incredibly quick 3.4 seconds. Further aerodynamic
revisions to the front bodywork, and extra cooling ducts, mark out the car's racing intentions, while road-going GTR versions will be equipped with a full leather interior and protection devices including airbags. |
