Maserati Prepares 3200GT Cabrio! by Alex Michalas
Maserati launched the 3200 GT in 1999 in an effort to reinvent itself as a producer of very desirable Grand Tourers. We think it fully succeeded in that as the 3200 GT is a thoroughly nice car - and a very desirable
one as well. Of course, in 1999, Maserati also joined forces with Ferrari - something that can only prove good in the future. Now, we have just learned that the Italians are preparing a convertible version of the 3200
GT to be launched in the summer of 2001! According to insiders, while looking a lot like the coupe 3200 GT, the cabrio will be based on a different, shorter floorpan and will be essentially a 2-seater. It will
be powered by a 3.2 lt. twin turbo V6 engine producing 370hp. Accelarting to 60mph should take less than 5 seconds and top speed is expected to be around 170 mph! The engine's power will be transferred to the rear
wheels through a six speed automatic gearbox. The 3200 GT Cabrio certainly looks set to be a very credible rival for the convertible versions of the Jaguar XKR and the Mercedes SL 500, offering a much wanted Italian
flair to the Grand Tourer category. What do you think? Click here and voice your opinion in our MessageBoard! |
