Superb Porsche 911 GT2 Breaks Cover!
by Alex Michalas

We reported on the upcoming 911 Turbo S just a few weeks ago and here comes another wild concept from Porsche:

It is the 911 GT2, a rear wheel drive, turbocharged version of the 911 that was primarily conceived as a racing car. Still, Porsche will also introduce a wild production version (shown in the photo for the first time) in next month's Detroit Auto Show!

The car will be powered by the same 3.2 lt engine that is used in the rest of the 911 range. In the GT2, the unit is turbocharged and tweaked to produce 462 hp (substantially more than the normal Turbo's 400hp). This increase in power, as well as the reduction in weight (set to be down to 1440 kg - 100 kg. less than the 911 Turbo) and the fact that the GT2 is a rear wheel drive car, result in a substantially different offering than the more refined and luxurious normal Turbo version.

The performance figures that Porsche has announced are 4.1 seconds for the acceleration to 60mph and a top speed of 196mph.

Quite a lot of racing technology will be used in the car, including ceramic brakes, a race tuned suspension and wider, lower tyres. The GT2 will also be lowered by 20mm compared to the standard 911 version.

Porsche just keeps on surprising us then and we really can't wait to see the first GT2s hit the road and the race track. What do you think? Is the GT2 the ultimate 911? Click here and voice your opinion in the FantasyCars.com MessageBoard!
