The French automaker has officially introduced in front of the worldwide audience at the 2015 IAA Frankfurt Motor Show the compact Megane, now in its fourth generation, complete with flagship GT grade.

Showcased online just last week the Megane follows in the design footsteps set by the Talisman midsize car and brings a lower and wider car with a long wheelbase and stricking design features. The modified dimensions ensure a much more dynamic stance on the road and the enhanced wheelbase will deliver more legroom especially at the back. Teh heavily influenced design makes ample use of the elements intorduced by the larger Talisman – also a world premiere in Frankfurt – and brings a sporty side profile, massive grille and swetback headlights with a spectacular design for the integrated LED daytime running lights. The rear also benefits from the apparition of the all-LED tail lamps, complete with 3D graphics.

Renault is also using the Megane to deliver never-before seen features in the class, such as a full color head-up display or a portrait-format 8.7-inch R-Link 2 touchscreen as an alternative to the more traditional landscape 7-inch screen used by the infotainment system.

The choice of engines under the hood begins with three dCi diesel mills that come with 90 PS (66 kW), 110 PS (81 kW) and 130 PS (96 kW). The petrol options are just as equal, with the three TCe units delivering 100 PS (74 kW), 130 PS (96 kW) and 205 PS (151 kW). The already established EDC dual-clutch automatic transmission will be an option for the dCi 110 (six-speed version) and the TCe 130, as well as the range-topping TCe 205 (with a seven-speed arrangement this time).

The flagship Megane for the time being will be the Renault Sport inspired GT variant that has a different design treatment and further interior enhancements. It is powered by the 205 PS TCe engine, running in conjunction with the seven-speed EDC dual-clutch transmission and the 4Control four-wheel steering. It also comes with a sports chassis setup and the visual makeover includes among others a different style for the lower and upper grille, extra 18-inch diamond-effect wheels, twin exhaust pipes or a new diffuser at the back. Look forward to the new Megane hitting European dealerships sometimes in the first part of next year, with the UK closely following a few months later.
