2017 Renault Koleos replacement revealed through leaked image

So much for teasers: the successor to Renault’s ageing Koleos SUV has surfaced online today, just hours after the French car maker released a first-look preview video.

Where that clip revealed frustratingly little – as always – this leaked image offers a clear ‘full frontal’ view of the new SUV, rumoured to be called Maxthon.

As expected, the new SUV’s styling builds on the look of its smaller Clio and Megane stablemates, along with the overseas Talisman, Espace, Kadjar and Scenic models, among others.

Standout commonalities in the styling of all of those models is a broad wing-like grille connecting the headlights – which showcase a hooked LED feature in more recent offerings – and a long wide body with subtly muscular haunches for each.

The new Renault will be larger than the Koleos it replaces, although it will likely remain in the ‘medium SUV’ segment – albeit at the top end in terms of size.

With the new SUV expected to debut this week, an Australian market launch could occur either late in 2016 or in the first half of 2017.
