FCA is recalling certain 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs for a potential issue with wiring harness related to the transmission shifter.

The Problem: A certain wire-harness terminal related the transmission gear selector could potentially lose its electrical connection resulting in the shifter being locked in the “PARK” or “NUETRAL positions after stopping. The issue is caused by a wiring harness that was not crimped properly, the automaker said.

The Fix: FCA is advising customers to use the vehicle parking brake when exiting their SUV. The automaker will contact owners of affected vehicles to bring their vehicles in for service. Owners can contact FCA US Customer Care Center at 1-800-853-1403.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: The recall affects certain 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee models including an estimated 32,267 SUVs in the U.S., 2,095 vehicles in Canada; 538 in Mexico; and 2,472 outside the NAFTA region.

No accidents or injuries have been linked to the issue. FCA says the new recall is unrelated to any previous recalls. Earlier this year, FCA recalled an estimated 811,586 midsize SUVs and full-size cars because drivers were not shifting into park before exiting their vehicles.
