Abarth – the performance arm of the Fiat brand – has decided that it needs to share the spotlight with the ongoing LA Auto Show in the US and the upcoming Guangzhou Motor Show. The scorpion-brand has opted to have the United Kingdom as the host of its official premiere of the new 695 Biposto Record – though if you ask us the price of the model should deliver enough profit to have the model flown to the US and China. But let’s not be picky about such trifle things and talk about the model that has been developed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Carlo Abarth’s acceleration record nobody heard of. It was a Class G car attempt undertaken at the Monza race track in 1965. The new 695 Biposto Record comes with a bespoke Modena Yellow paint job featuring Tar Cold Grey accents and carbon fiber bits and pieces. The limited series also got treated to Brembo brakes, a maddening Akrapovic dual exhaust system, as well as 18-inch OZ Racing wheels. To ensure exclusivity in front of the café in Rome, sorry – London – the maker has also fitted some enameled “695 Record” badging on the sides, inconspicuously located behind the door handles. The cabin is a more standard affair, being mostly the same as in the regular 695 Biposto but now comes with Sabelt carbon shell seats with four-point harnesses, boasts an individually-numbered plaque, a cargo net, and refreshed instrument cluster with a bespoke start-up animation. Under the hood sits the well known 1.4-liter Turbo T-Jet mill that delivers 190 PS (139 kW) and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque – mated to a manual gearbox it jumps to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 5.9 seconds and is able to reach up to 143 mph (230 km/h). Just 133 units will be made and the Record will ask an arm and a leg – 36,610 pounds.
