Those of us rooting for a pure performance driven Subaru BRZ STI experience might at long last get a satisfying result – it appears the Japanese automaker has filed a patent that would morph into reality the Subaru STI Performance Concept. The patent filling not only delivers us a measure of certainty the model will hit the production line, but also discloses the upcoming update the BRZ will be treated to. The Toyota GT 86 / Subaru BRZ / Scion FR-S triumvirate reached markets since early 2012 and naturally all fans of the Subaru brands have been left wondering when will they be able to make down payments to have the STI variant in front of their driveway. While not 100 percent certain before we do see the car in flesh and metal or at least have a high ranking Subaru official confirm it, four years later the time is nigh for a facelift procedure – and the latest trend is also to bring the high-performance version at the same time (think about the latest Ford Focus RS). The updated BRZ looks ready to cross over to the BRZ STI Performance’s concept credentials, sporting the same head and taillights. It appears that our colleagues from over at AutoGuide have decided to scan the Japan Patent Office’s database, where they uncovered these renderings from a very recent filling that depicts the hardcore version we’ve all been rooting for. We also noticed the drawings look interestingly the same as the concept and thus we’re also hoping the prototype’s 350 horsepower engine would carry over, for good measure. Via AutoGuide
