Classic meets contemporary should be the under title for the Morgan EV3 – which has been presented in production form during the ongoing Geneva Motor Show.

The model has been teased on occasions and is a version of the 3 Wheeler – but more importantly marks the first instance when a Morgan model adopts a fully electric powertrain. The iconic configuration with three wheels has been retained but power comes courtesy of an electric motor with 63 horsepower (46 kilowatts) that takes the space of the V-twin combustion engine found inside the regular 3 Wheeler. The electric soul grants it with an acceleration capacity of no more than 9 seconds to 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour), with the maximum speed being in excess of 90 mph (145 km/h). There’s a 20-kWh lithium battery pack that will grant a range of 150 miles (241 km) on a single charge. By the way, while electric powertrains are known for their inherent heft brought by the electric motor and battery pack combo, this time around the EV3 is actually 55 pounds (25 kilograms) lighter than the 3 Wheeler and tips the scales at 1102 lbs (500 kg).

This was made possible due to Morgan’s inherent craftsmanship – where else would you see real wood mixed up with lightweight carbon-fiber body panels, such as the bonnet and side pods. “The EV3 is an exciting opportunity for our customers to enjoy the unique Morgan driving experience and the joy of tailored manufacture while remaining conscientious towards the future of our planet,” commented Morgan managing director Steve Morris. Pricing details have not been detailed yet, but the company says it will be comparable to the regular 3 Wheeler, which can be had for $36,178 (£25,950).
