The new generation Renault Scenic comes with a stylish design and promises to blend under one roof the best features of the crossovers and MPVs.

Renault was one of the pioneers of the compact MPV segment in Europe, introducing the first Scenic 20 years ago, a model than now has reached to its fourth generation. The design of the new model finds its inspiration from the R-Space concept car that was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 2011. To give it a crossover stance, Renault also applied to the MPV a crossover style treatment and the similarities with the Kadjar SUV are quite noticeable. The high stance is also emphasized by the massive 20 inch standard wheels. Compared to the previous model, the new Scenic is slightly bigger – with a length of 4,406 mm, 1,865 mm wide, 1,653 mm in height and with a wheelbase measuring 2,734 mm, while the ground clearance gained 40 mm to reach 170 mm.

The key features of the new cabin are the continuity of the dashboard’s lines across the door panels and a more driver-centric dashbord than that of the Scenic 3, highlighted by the full-colour head-up display. The luggage space boasts a volume of 496cc VDA (equivalent to 572 litres), representing an increase of 26cc VDA over the previous generation, while additional 63 litres of stowage can be found throughout the cabin. In terms of safety technologies, the new Scenic offers AEBS (Active Emergency Braking System) with Pedestrian Detection fitted as standard. In addition, it can be fitted with Lane Keeping Assist and Fatigue detection warning.

The MPV’s engine lineup consists of six diesels and two petrol alternatives: the Energy dCi 95 with a six-speed manual gearbox; the Energy dCi 110 with a six-speed manual gearbox; the Energy dCi 110 Hybrid Assist with a six-speed manual gearbox (later in the year); the Energy dCi 110 with EDC (Efficient Dual Clutch) seven-speed automatic transmission; the Energy dCi 130 with a six-speed manual gearbox; the Energy dCi 160 with EDC (Efficient Dual Clutch) six-speed automatic transmission; the Energy TCe 115 with a six-speed manual gearbox; the Energy TCe 130 with a six-speed manual gearbox.
