GMC and Buick brand boss has major plans for them both

Duncan Aldred, the executive in charge of both the successful GMC truck brand and the so-so Buick marquee has decided there’s room for improvement across both lineups. Popularity is usually a crucial factor for the automakers when deciding whether to bring to the production line a certain concept (given it was originally thought as a possible series solution from the first place, naturally), but in the case of GMC’s acclaimed Granite concept it’s been a very long wait. The prototype was first showcased almost six years ago in Detroit during the North American International Auto Show and although its popularity has been running high ever since it somehow mismatched its steps towards the production line. But it appears the GMC brand is once again rolling the dice on having a small crossover – a timely move since the SUV/crossover segments have been booming as of late. And GMC is lacking exactly in the department of subcompact crossovers, which are proving ever more popular. Duncan Aldred, which also directs the future of the Buick brand, said the potential of such a model is virtually massive and his influence might weigh in if the automaker decides to put such a model on its agenda in the near future. He also tipped the fact that such a GMC model would for sure have their own clients instead of clashing with the Encore buyers – which has been jumping 33 percent in the US through November. We’re not really looking to see another crossover, though its popularity would be high – undeniably – and would instead root for a Buick-themed Opel Adam. Via Automotive News
