The largest luxury automaker in the world, Germany’s BMW, has officially introduced in front of the worldwide audience the new Compact Sedan concept in China at the Guangzhou event. The model will preview an expected 1 Series sedan (though rumors also say it could be under the 2 Series guise actually) and the prototype comes with an unique Liquid Metal Bronze paint job that utilizes fine pigments to have the hue shifted slightly between light and dark depending on the incidence of light. We are also treated to a dynamic front end with a large twin kidney grille, LED headlights and bespoke air intakes in the front bumper. On the sides we are greeted by flared wheel arches, polished aluminum window surrounds, as well as 20-inch alloy wheels but we also paid notice to the latest interpretation of the “swage line,” or the traditional Hofmeister kink – and the production model will surely axe the soft-touch handles that open the doors when they are touched. The interior is pretty familiar if you ever sat in a modern BMW and the dashboard has been treated to open-pored wood and brushed aluminum accents, alongside Nappa leather seats. We also noticed the head up display, the orange-colored ambient lights, the panoramic glass roof, touch-sensitive controls, or the freestanding infotainment system complete with 8.8-inch tablet-like screen. In the back only two seats have been fitted and the passengers also have their own air conditioning system controls. The brand has been mum on technical specificatiosn but we’re expecting the production model to employ the new UKL architecture and thus feature front wheel drive mated to an array of three- and four-cylinder engines.
