LA Auto Show: 2016 Honda Civic Coupe is now official and brings a new turbocharged engine with it

The hotly anticipated 2016 Civic Coupe has finally reached the Los Angeles Auto Show and the third largest Japanese automaker has also announced the introduction of an optional turbo powerplant. The two-door version of the 2016 Civic will reach dealer showrooms in March 2016 and comes with a completely redesigned body that takes a more sporty approach – mirroring the surprising Coupe Concept presented earlier this year in New York. The front end is a rather faithful reproduction of the sedan design but from the A pillar onwards everything is brand new and unique to the coupe version. We have a sloped windscreen, a rakish roof, a different rear end and C-shaped LED taillights. The automaker did not disclose the full list of specifications – keeping some goodies for when the time is nigh – but did say that automatic headlights and LED daytime running lights will be standard. On the extra list sit the LED headlights and rain sensors. The interior has also been updated and now features a more upscale appearance thanks to the soft-touch instrument panel, higher-quality seat fabrics and a completely reworked interior styling. Base models will get an automatic climate control system and an acoustic windscreen while top grades will also receive heated front seats, a digital instrument cluster or the seven-inch Display Audio infotainment system boasting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The compact dimensions make enough space for four persons and Honda even said it was able to improve the rear seat legroom by more than 5 inches and added an extra 8.4 cubic feet of interior space compared to the predecessor. Two powertrains will be available when the model reaches dealer lots: 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 158 bhp (117 kW) and 138 lb-ft (186 Nm) of torque and a completely new turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder churning out 174 bhp (129 kW) and 162 lb-ft (219 Nm) of torque.
