South Korean automaker Kia Motors has decided the Los Angeles Auto Show is the perfect event to premiere in front of the North American audience the US specification of the 2017 Sportage. The crossover sport utility vehicle looks unchanged from the European specification version that debuted earlier in September during the IAA Frankfurt Motor Show, coming with a stylish yet evolutionary design that makes use of the “tiger-nose” grille and also comes with a sloping roof and a sturdy, thick rear pillar. While the base model is nothing to write home about, the top of the line SX Turbo adds some goodies – including HID headlights, the signature LED fog lamps, faux-metal skid plates, as well as better looking 19-inch alloy wheels. The interior is also treated to a more serious, German-style design and comes nicely fitted with upgraded, soft-touch materials, metallic as well as a five-inch color touchscreen. Going for the medium-priced Sportage EX customers will also have amenities such as leather upholstery and the UVO3 infotainment system that upgrades the screen to a seven incher and comes packed with Android Auto/ Apple CarPlay functionality. The flagship SX Turbo will also add a leather steering wheel, piano black accents, aluminum pedals and the infotainment system comes with an 8 incher and a standard navigation system. The Sportage LX and EX have under the hood the naturally-aspirated 2.4-liter four-cylinder mill churning out 181 bhp (134 kW) and 175 lb-ft (237 Nm) of torque. Go for the SX Turbo and you’ll get a charged up 2.0-liter four-cylinder delivering 241 bhp (179 kW) and 260 lb-ft (352 Nm) of torque – both engines are mated to a six-speed auto and the AWD system is optional.
