LA Auto Show: Lamborghini unleashes the “entry-level” Huracan LP580-2

Even when you’re an exclusive supercar manufacturer you need to offer some base models in order to spread your model line across a wider variety of customer interests. Though I’m not sure this idea actually fits this case entirely. Lamborghini is premiering during the Los Angeles Auto Show the all new Huracan LP580-2, which is in fan speak a toned down version of the current LP610-4. If you know how to read the technicalities of Lamborghini naming nomenclature, you have already distinguished the primary characteristics of the new version. That’s because it has “just” 580 PS and a rear-wheel drive layout. It has been delivered to cater for the driving enthusiast and comes with a slightly toned down exterior design that could set it apart from the all-wheel drive brother. Also new for the Huracan LP580-2 are the 19-inch wheels clad in Pirelli PZero tires that have been specially developed for the car. The toned down 5.2-liter V10 mill now delivers – as mentioned – 580 PS (426 kW) and 540 Nm (398 lb-ft) of torque. Performance wise the two are almost a match because the 30 PS (22 kW) less powerful Huracan is also 33 kg (72 lbs) slimmer than the regular Huracan LP610-4 thanks to the removal of the all-wheel drive system. The 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint is handled in a slightly slower 3.4 seconds and the maximum speed is of 320 km/h (198 mph). The Huracan has CO2 emissions of 278 g/km and returns 11.9 L/100km (19.7 mpg US) on average. The chassis comes fitted with a retuned suspension, an improved steering system as well as updated stability and traction control systems. Pricing begins at 150,000 euros – a little lower than the 169,500 Huracan LP610-4.
