Lexington is taking a different approach to fining parking violators, for the second holiday season in a row, the Parking Authority will allow people to pay their parking citations with cans of food instead of cash. The program, named ‘Food for Fines,’ was so successful in 2014 that the parking authority decided expand it.For every 10 canned food items donated, ticketed drivers will receive a $15 credit on any parking citation issued by LexPark or the Lexington Police. And yes, you can bring more canned goods to double or even triple your credit. All food collected during ‘Food for Fines’ will go directly to a local pantry that will use the canned goods to stock shelves at its four Lexington locations.“Last year, citizens brought in over 6,200 cans of food as payment for over 600 meter citations,” said Gary Means, LexPark executive director.http://thechive.com/2015/11/17/finally-some-good-can-come-from-a-parking-ticket-4-photos/
