Mahindra KUV100 compact SUV revealed

Indian carmaker Mahindra has launched the latest offering in its growing SUV range, unveiling the compact new KUV100 this week.

Joining the large XUV500 and the only recently launched TUV300, the KUV100 – which stands for “Kool Utility Vehicle”, by the way – will go on sale in India early next month.

Power in the KUV100 will be provided by Mahindra’s new 1.2-litre three-cylinder 61kW/114Nm petrol and 57kW/190Nm diesel ‘mFalcon’ engines. Five-speed manual and automated manual transmissions are also expected.

In India, the KUV100, known during development as the S101, will be marketed as a rival to the likes of Ford’s EcoSport and the Renault Kwid.

And, like the TUV300 before it, the KUV100 is unlikely to find an Australian berth, again leaving the XUV500 as Mahindra’s only SUV offering in our market.

Mahindra’s Australian operation hopes to remedy the situation in the next year or two, however, with another upcoming compact SUV – codenamed S105 – expected to be a better fit for local market tastes and requirements.
