The top has been dropped on the McLaren 675LT, with the British brand showcasing the McLaren 675LT Spider overnight. The new hard-top convertible supercar is described by the company as “the most focused, fastest and exhilarating open top McLaren model ever built”, with its 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 engine producing 497kW of power and 700Nm of torque. It can sprint from 0-100km/h in a claimed 2.9 seconds, while the next benchmark – 200km/h – is reached in just 8.1 seconds, just 0.2sec slower than the Coupe. The Spider’s top speed is 326km/h. It will be limited to just 500 units worldwide, and its three-piece electronically-operated roof can be folded down and stowed on top of the engine bay at speeds up to 30km/h. The 675LT spider has a focus on lightweight construction, and it is claimed to have a dry weight of just 1270 kilograms, which is 100kg less than the 650S Spider and 40kg heavier than the 675LT Coupe. According to McLaren, no further strengthening of the body was required, as the carbonfibre MonoCell chassis is strong enough. Carbonfibre also features in the bodywork – the bumpers, skirts, intakes, diffusers and the ‘Longtail’ air-brake system – which deploys to assist with downforce during hard braking at speed – are all constructed of the lightweight, high-strength material. The McLaren 675LT Spider seen in these images is finished in a new hue, Solis green, though the rest of the brand’s colours are available. It is fitted with 20-spoke forged alloys (19-inch at the front; 20-inch at the rear) with Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tyres. Inside there are a pair of carbonfibre shell racing seats – modelled on the seats used in the P1 hypercar – which save 15kg over standard seats. The portrait-style media screen is retained, and it sends sound to a four-speaker Meridian stereo. The car doesn’t have air conditioning, which has been removed to save 16kg (it can be added back in should the buyer so choose). The first deliveries of the McLaren 675LT Spider will commence in 2016. CarAdvice has contacted McLaren’s local press team to see if the car will be offered here, and at what price. In the US, the McLaren 675LT Spider is priced at $372,600 (AUD: $508,300).
