While the Japanese automaker is currently in a major predicament, the world keeps spinning and the company has announced yet another prototype – complete with plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Mitsubishi has revealed the model using a subtle teaser, announcing its intention to deliver during the Paris Motor Show in early October a new sport utility vehicle concept. This follows in the line of the XR PHEV II and eX concepts showcased in 2015 and will build on the company’s ‘Dynamic Shield’ design philosophy. In the attached teaser we can’t see the entirety of the concept but we do see the almost flat roofline that gets a contrasting burgundy red finish against the grey body paint – and there aren’t any apparent door handles. More so, cameras sit where the conventional mirrors were once located while we also notice the lights. Both the headlights and taillights looks leek and come to underline the SUV’s futuristic appearance.

We can expect the rest of the concept to feature huge wheels as is the case with any concept today, while the cabin should bring a stylish and minimalistic appearance with very few buttons and knobs. No details have been shared about the powertrain other than the fact it’s a plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) vehicle – so we have an internal combustion engine mated to an electric motor and a battery pack, with an added charging port. Mitsubishi adds it “will offer effortless travel both on and off the beaten track whatever the driving conditions,” so we’re also betting on the company’s well known all-wheel drive expertise to play a role.
