Jannarelly, a Dubai-based startup, has unveiled sketches of a ’60s-inspired roadster it plans to sell in 2016.

Called the Jannarelly Design-1, the two-seater sports car features a lightweight body made from fiberglass and carbon fiber. It also has a steel tubular frame and structural aluminum panels for its chassis. A Nissan-sourced, naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V-6 engine drives the rear wheels, producing 304 hp and propelling the car to 60 mph in a claimed time of under 4 seconds. “But of course, customers can install anything they want that will fit,” Jannarelly says on its website.

Customization is a big part of Jannarelly’s goal, as the Design-1 was made to allow different components to fit on the same base. Buyers can customize body parts and aerodynamic elements, add a windscreen in place of a polycarbonate aeroscreen, or opt for a hardtop.

Jannarelly says its car is a tribute to the “golden age of sports cars” but with a modern twist. In a statement, the company says it wanted to create “a really simple and mechanical car with state-of-the-art components, that can be customized until it reflects its owner, in a pure outlaw spirit similar to the projects created by Porsche fans.”

The company was founded by W Motor Supercars designer Anthony Jannarelly and Frederic Juillot, owner of a carbon fiber manufacturing business called Equation Composite.

What will the car cost? Jannarelly says the launch edition model is priced at $55,000, excluding delivery and taxes. The model will also be sold in Europe.
