Next generation 2017 Opel Insignia bringing new bi-turbo diesel mill and sleeker design

The rumor mill has decided to have the upcoming Opel Insignia midsize sedan out for a quick spin, so here’s the latest updated on the work in progress by the Russelsheim engineers. The latest details to emerge concerning the upcoming new generation of the current flagship model in Opel’s lineup concern one of the upcoming powertrain options. As a round up, the reports so far regarding the model have the Insignia growing in size and according to German automotive magazine Auto Bild the figures could be of around 6 inches (15 cm) in terms of length and 3.5 inches (9 cm) when speaking about the wheelbase. Opel is going to introduce an entirely new lineup of 3- and 4-cylinder turbo engine units on the Insignia – the base version could even go as low as having under the hood a 1.0-liter motor, while at the other end of the spectrum a new bi-turbo diesel appears to be planned. The latter should churn out 160 hp and come with increased fuel consumption efficiency compared to the outgoing diesel range. The architecture will have front-wheel drive provided as a standard, with certain, more powerful versions also treated to the AWD system.
