Renault’s product offensive pushes its sales to new record levels

The French automaker reported a sales rise of over 13 percent for the first half of the year, helped by its efforts to update its lineup.

Renault has been very active in recent years, as it launched several new key models and also update some of its products. And such efforts brought the Group’s sales to record sales for the first half of 2016, a period in which its global registrations grew by 13.4 percent to 1.57 million vehicles. In Europe, the automaker’s deliveries grew at a faster pace than the region’s trend, rising by 14 percent to 968,603 vehicles in a market up 9.6 percent. The Renault brand alone jumped 15.6 percent thanks to the renewed range with Kadjar, Espace, Talisman and new Megane, but also help by the Clio 4 – the second bestselling vehicle in Europe – and Captur, the leading crossover in its class.

The Renault-owned Romanian budget brand Dacia has also evolved, setting a new sales record in the first half of the year by increasing 9 percent. Due to the recently launched Kwid, Africa, Middle East and India sales zone were also particularly strong, as they returned a 38 percent surge in the first half. Renault said it expected its full-year outlook to stay on track despite the UK’s decision of leaving the European Union, adding however that was still too early to assess the full Brexit implications. “We’ll have to wait until September to measure the possible Brexit impact on the market,” sales chief Thierry Koskas said.
