The TT Sportback prototype made its official public debut back in the day during the 2014 Paris Motor Show and now the Ingolstadt-based automaker looks ready to make the production model official. We’re unsure why there’s the need for yet another Sportback version but the latest rumor points out towards a November 20 release during the Guangzhou Auto Show – the new model could be catering to Chinese tastes first and foremost, delivering us the answer to the aforementioned question. According to Chinese automotive publication the four-door Audi TT Sportback will be in line with the latest tastes of the Chinese public – which obviously love more spacious cars. The production version will blend sportiness and practicality using the Volkwagen Group’s MQB modular platform and production will be handled by the European plant in Gyor, Hungary, where the TT is also made in coupe and roadster form. And we already know the TT family will soon grow even larger thanks to the addition of the Audi TT Q crossover sometimes in 2017. The Chinese-bound Audi TT Sportback could be powered by the 2.0 TFSI turbo-4 churning out 230 PS (169 kW) or 310 PS (228 kW). Customers will also be able to order the 2-liter TDI and the 2.5 TFSI, though the latter two options are mostly market dependant. FWD or all-wheel drive will be available and the gearbox choices include the regular six-speed manual or the 6-speed S-tronic dual-clutch automatic. The TT Sportback is expected to rival models such as the Mercedes-Benz CLA. Via
