The chief of Mercedes-AMG, Tobias Moers, has recently alleged the high performance Daimler division would not leave the GT R model that will be presented at Goodwood later this year a standalone production.

This means the boss has pretty much hinted the GT R will not be treated as the flagship version of the Mercedes-AMG GT for long. This means a fully-fledged Black Series is currently in the development phase – even though the top manager at Mercedes-AMG claimed it’s still too early to discuss such a model. That would be the sensible choice since we haven’t even seen in the flesh the GT R yet in official pictures. The latter will be inspired by the circuit-exclusive Mercedes-AMG GT3 and will come with a sportier demeanor thanks to an aggressive body kit that will also include a massive rear wing. The biturbo 4.0-liter V8 will also be modified to jump to almost 600 horsepower – and if that’s the case then the Black Series could seriously enter the hypercar field next.

The Mercedes-AMG GT R will also go to the “gym” to lose weight – as much as 175 pounds (79 kilograms) have been rumored to have been shaved off compared to the regular iteration. And the Black Series is going to be even lighter when it’s time for its apparition. But before that happens the Mercedes-AMG unit will deliver the roadster iteration of the regular GT which should arrive after the GT R sometimes in 2017.
