Report – New twin turbo 4.2-liter V8 coming to the Cadillac CT6

The American luxury brand released the CT6 flagship sedan last year, with the most powerful installment under the hood being a biturbo 3.0-liter V6 churning out 404 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque.

That’s pretty much great pound per horsepower but fans of the marquee still reminisced the days when classic V8 power was found under the hood of the range topping Caddies. We’re not real fans of the level of craftsmanship from those days but we do feel as well some classic elegance is in order if you want to make sales in the gritty luxury segment. It appears that now Cadillac chief executive officer Johan de Nysschen and his team have listened to the fans as the manager has reportedly confirmed the company’s plans to introduce a brand new V8 mill. The power plant will be an entirely new biturbo 4.2-liter V8 of which de Nysschen only hinted it would sport a power level in the “upper 400s.”

And while the new V8 CT6 will apparently sport almost the same power level as the preceding generation STS-V, it appears the model will not have the performance badging – as it would be offered on the Platinum trim. This one commends an asking price of $84,460 when featured with the mundane 3.6-liter V6 packing 335 hp and 284 lb-ft of torque so we might be looking at a price tag that jumps into six-figure territory. The new engine could debut alongside the CT6’s bigger brother that will become the true company flagship – talk is of a CT8 or 9 moniker and presentation should occur before the end of the decade.
