Our spy photographers have caught the upcoming 2017 Mercedes-AMG E63 wagon testing at the Nürburgring in Germany. Essentially a hot-rodded  version of the standard E-Class wagon, the current E63 wagon packs a fire-breathing V-8 engine along with all the utility of a GLC or GLE crossover.

Unlike the old car’s 577-hp 5.5-liter unit, it’s likely that the new E63 will come armed the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 found in the C63 and AMG GT S. However, unlike those cars, the version found in the E63 could possibly make north of 600 hp. AMG’s seven-speed MCT Speedshift automatic transmission will likely be the only gearbox offered and an AMG-tuned 4Matic all-wheel drive system should be standard equipment.

Key exterior design cues that hint at this wagon’s potential include what looks like massive carbon ceramic brakes and aggressive-looking front fascia. Out back, the biggest giveaway that this is not your ordinary E-Class are the quad exhaust tips. Additionally, there appears to be a power dome on the hood, which suggests that a beast is hiding underneath.

Look for the 2017 Mercedes-AMG E63 or E63 S to debut sometime before the end of 2016. The sedan will likely be introduced first followed by the wagon. It’s still unknown if the next E-Class coupe and convertible will also get the AMG treatment.
