The 2015 Thailand International Motor Expo has been chosen by the Japanese automaker as the most auspicious venue to present the production model BR-V crossover to the worldwide audience. The model was initially introduced as a concept version during GIIAS just a few months ago and it appears the engineers worked quick and hard to have the series production model ready in time for Thailand’s autoshow. Naturally, given the reduced timeframe the “active sport crossover” actually looks identical to the prototype – it’s a new representative in the highly competitive sub-compact crossover segment. To stand out from the crowd, it has been engineered with a more distinctive design and also comes with up to seven seats. The all-new BR-V SUV has projector headlights and LED daytime running lights while the taillights also use the light-emitting diodes and have been linked through a red strip across the trunk lid. To cater for rougher terrains, the BR-V has also been fitted with front and rear underbody protection, as well as plastic body cladding front, side and back and over the wheel arches. Inside the crossover can seat up to seven passengers and comes equipped with auto-air conditioning, dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, Vehicle Stability Assist, and Hill Start Assist. Under the hood the Japanese carmaker has fitted the four-cylinder i-VTEC 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine that can also use E85 fuel and comes packing 120 PS (88 kW) and 145 Nm (107 lb-ft) of torque. It has been mated to a new 6-speed manual or an optional CVT, but standard you also get the low-budget front wheel drive system. Via
