The Opel GT is that exotic model that any mass-market automaker should have present in its lineup to spice up the roster and make fans love the brand.

And the model could be reiterated, according to the latest report on the company plans. It appears the vehicle can actually be described as a pet project of Opel chief executive officer Karl-Thomas Neumann and German magazine Autobild is currently indicating the model’s roots will be deeply intertwined with the DNA of the latest generation Astra. But the Opel GT will live up to its name and feature an entirely different styling language that “does not have the slightest resemblance” to the donor vehicle. We’re rooting for the rumored Monza inspired elements – such as an aggressive and stylish front end with massive grille and sleek headlights. Short overhangs, flared fenders and a 2+2 interior arrangement should also be expected.

No official word has perspired yet but the company did deliver a year in review video recently with Neumann officially announcing the company’s “real highlight (introduction) at the Geneva Motor Show.” The executive of course gets all cryptic with us and details the model as a prototype “which you probably would not have expected from us.” It appears the mysterious concept will serve as the preview for the upcoming Opel GT and the tentative production schedule has reserved a timeslot in 2018. If all goes according to plan it should be a fairly accessible model, going from 25,000 euros and being equipped with gasoline engines that can reach up to 295 hp (220 kW).
