Watch a Sprint Car Flip Over a Fence and Out of the Track

No matter the series, racing has its dangers. Crashes with other drivers, walls, and accidents due to mechanical issues will inevitably happen, and during a sprint car race at Perris Auto Speedway this past weekend in California, Austin Williams was involved in one of the most amazing crashes in the sport’s history.

Fences and guard rails surround most outer portions of race tracks, helping to ensure the safety of the audience, but Williams managed to flip his Sprint car over the fence, after tumbling and gaining air on the track. Williams appears to carry too much speed when attempting to drift through a turn. Once two of the sprint car’s tires leave the ground, the vehicle rolls before ultimately soaring over the fence.

The car belongs to the USAC’s 410 non-winged sprint class, which dictates an engine size of 410 cubic-inches (6.7 liters). With that kind of power and no wing for downforce, a crash like this could have ended up much worse. Luckily for Williams, he was able to walk away from the spectacular accident, looking completely uninjured.
