By far the oldest sedan on this site, the B7 was introduced
in 1978 and produced until 1982 for a total of 149 cars. A KKK turbocharger,
new injection system, lower compression pistons, new valves, 5-speed Getrag
gearbox, revised suspension and larger disk brakes overhaul the original
automobile. Interior and exterior also get a treatment with new seats, spoilers
and the standard no cost Alpina paint scheme. And this Bimmer hauls ass, 0-60
and 0-100 are faster than most contemporary sports sedans with a 20 year head
start can manage. The B7 was the fastest 4-door sedan in the world, for 3
years, until the B7 Turbo S was introduced in 1981. It was introduced in
November and produced for only 7 months and a total of 60 cars. The Turbo
S underwent similar modifications as the Turbo with the exception of a more
powerful turbocharger, a Getrag ZF 5-speed gearbox and a 330 hp engine. Both
cars ride on 16" wheels and 205/55 rubber in the front and 225/50 in the
rear. These limited production Alpinas are some of the cars that paved the way
for today's sports sedans, and should be treasured with care by their lucky
owners. Specifications are listed for both cars. - by Traian Popescu
