Jaguar XJR 2004

Jaguar XJR 2004 Photo 309 There is something about the Jaguar marque that exudes a sense of style and grace like no other. Sure, Mercedes engineers its cars like no other in the world, BMW builds the ultimate drivers' machines and Lexus passionately pursues perfection but your heart will always be drawn to the company from Coventry. You'll have to put up with a few quirks and shortcomings, but if you really wanted perfection, you'd buy a Lexus right? And while the previous XJR was a highly desirable machine, it certainly wasn't perfect. Enter the 2004 XJR, topping the 7th incarnation of the XJ range since its introduction in 1968.It looks great, but that is simply because it looks exactly as before. In fact, the new XJ is actually longer, wider and taller, with shorter overhangs, a less steeply raked windscreen and more passenger and luggage space. The body is constructed almost entirely out of aluminium, using unconventional rivet-bonded joining technology, so that it is 60 percent stiffer than before. Most impressively of all, the new XJ is 440 pounds lighter than its forefather. The XJR gets its go power from a 400hp (DIN) supercharged 4.2-litre V8 hooked up to a ZF-sourced six-speed automatic transmission first introduced in the S-Type. Self-leveling air suspension is standard on all models, as is Jaguar's CATS Computer Active Technology Suspension system, Dynamic Stability Control, Adaptive Cruise Control with Forward Alert, and the ARTS Adaptive Restraint Technology System. It also gets cup-holders.The '04 XJR is a great blend of traditional traditions and modern modernity and you'll be able to get your own in mid-2003. The art of performance? Yes, that too. - by Traian Popescu
