I wouldnt want to worry too much about that... I think the Porsche name is too into an enthusiasts mind for it to be affected by one (and this is not for certain) wrong decision. But then again, what if the Cayane is a success story? Then Porsche will be thinking to broaden in its line even more. So, the Cayane being a dissaster wouldnt be too bad for us, atleast then we wont be seeing any Saloon Porsches. But honestly, the fact that Porsche's undeniable exceptional engineering and technological skills might be going to places they have never been before intruiges me. I would love to see the SUV and the thought of 911-based rear engined four door saloon waters my mouth.------------------ Women are important, very important... but my Guru once told me that cherish what you will have for life... Can you believe I saw last nigh(saturday)8, again 8!!! 996 Carreras, 4!! air cooled 911 and 4 996 Turbo. Dammit , the last time I saw a Ferrari was in may. Porsches are like BMW ,cool and fast but everybody got one. If you really want an exotic car to stand in the crowd buy yourself a Lotus or a Ferrari, I wont pay 80K-100K for a 911 that isnt faster than 50 K Z06 and isnt as exclusive as 70K Viper.Dammit when you buy a Ferrari, you pay a lot but at least if you get spanked by a 800 HP Viper, you know at least your driving an EXCLUSIVE CAR, hey you wont find SUV, sedans or minivans at stoplights wearing the FERRARI badge...no-no, leave it to the other guys!!!! How you think a 996 Turbo or a Carrera GT owner would feel when a Cayenne pulls next to him at the stoplight....I would fill sad. I payed 110K for a car than can barely beat a 70 000 Viper and 50 000 Z06 , but when you expect exclusivity and a exotic status all you get is a SUV wearing the PORSCHE badge that is about to be beated by a GS400..... Now beating the crap of a PORSCHE would be more easy.... I think that even if the Cayenne is hit, then what would come next, a minivan??? or maybe small-hatch to compete with the Civic Type R???? Well frictionx, I guess we'll have to wait and see. As far as I know, the only SUV that will give the Cayenne a race with the stop watch would be its sister VW. Probably BMW's rumored high powered X5 too. Well, as long as they keep bringing those 911s, then I guess their sports car heritage is safe. Well, thats my opinion, but I guess only time will tell.------------------ Women are important, very important... but my Guru once told me that cherish what you will have for life... Thats sad. I hope Porsche doesn't fall to easily into VW's current cirsis. Well, lets hope they play it smart. You know, you can be sisters and totaly look different, behave and feel different ... even if you are twins.... Ok, dont tell me ... I'm not making sense again, am I Atleast it was a good effort to explain what Porsche might be doing ... I have a strange feeling that it wont happen though ------------------ Women are important, very important... but my Guru once told me that cherish what you will have for life... I don't know how other people(the general public) will view Porsche(especially Porsche enthusiasts) after this SUV thing, but I will lose a lot of respect for them. I have thought about it and I would get a 360 over a 911T, just b/c they aren't all over the place, and when someone pulls up to a 911 they aren't sure if it's turbo or not, but when you pull up to a Ferrari you know you are going to get handed your AZZ.------------------ A&F Auto Sales '93 Camaro Z28 A4: Custom CAI, TB Bypass FS: $8,000 '90 Integra LS: 5-Speed, Exhaust, Springs, Konig Villain's FS: $4,000 "Bowtie 'til the day I die" IP: Logged |

yeah good one frictionx just though you may want to know after recnt test of the new porsche (cayenne) against the 911 turbo at the Nurburgring circuit, the cayenne came out on top beating the 911 turbo..... and it alos looks like the next gen of 911 will be developed with a V8 indstead of a flat 6------------------

I think that the cayenne rocks. finally an suv with balls and good looks. Plus, if the 914, 944, and 928 didn't destroy Porsche's reputation I doubt that the Cayenne will. In any case, at least we will finally have a decent suv choice...------------------

A VW-sourced 3.2L V6, a Porsche developed V8, and a twin turbo version of the same V8 producing close to 450 hp. Ironically, the biggest mess up is that the VW SUV's top-of-the-line model will have a 450hp W12 engine.I'd hate to see the 911 with a V8 engine. I have my doubts about a Cayenne outpacing a 911 Turbo at Nurburgring. ------------------ Women are important, very important... but my Guru once told me that cherish what you will have for life... If Porsche got robbed of its heritage by getting a V8, I would lose more respect for it. But I guess it would be cool to have another V8 sports car.------------------ A&F Auto Sales '93 Camaro Z28 A4: Custom CAI, TB Bypass FS: $8,000 IP: Logged |

I think Porsche scrapped plans for having the VW I-6 as an option on the Cayenne.I haven't heard about a V8 in the next 911, but it's possible. Let's not forget the 8-cylinder format is part of Porsche history - the 928 had a fine example. By the way, the Cayenne test mule that was humming around the Nurburgring was photographed after its wheel cracked off and flew into orbit. Embarrassing for Porsche, but that's what testing's all about. (It does seem strange that VW will be outgunning the Cayenne with their 450 bhp SUV, doesn't it?) ------------------

For some reason i believe that you went to a porsche dealer, lol. Actually, i live in one of the richest parts of florida and the last time i saw a 911 was more than a week ago but i saw a ferrari about 3 days ago. probably just a coincidence but thats ok. oh and also, if you complain about no difference between the normally aspirated and turbo 911 then you should hate the lack of difference in the vette (standard model) and the Z06. ------------------ Porsche lover down to the golf clubs. King, so is the base Cayenne going to be the non-turbo V8, or are they building their own engine for their base model? Personally, putting a V8 in a 911 would completely change the 911. A V8 behind the rear axle does seem a triffle too imbalanced. The 911 has always been the sole of Porsche. the 911 has always been with boxer engines. Mess with that, and you are messing with Porsche's foundation (although the Boxster could compensate). V8s are becoming the norm nowadays. The next M3 and S4 will have V8s. Arguably, Ferrari makes the best V8, but Porsche, hands down, has the six-cylinder mantle. The flat six is Porsche's signature. Making more models on this trademark engine configuration will only add to its uniqueness. I did see the picture of the wheel-less Cayenne ... lets only hope they've attended to it. So far, the Cayenne has been stealing the spotlight. I have a strange feeling that it will be a lot more good for its sillent, almost unnoticed, twin sister, who might just come a few seconds quicker than the Porsche. ------------------ Women are important, very important... but my Guru once told me that cherish what you will have for life...
