the 911 turbo vs the 360 modena is such a hard decision for me because they are really my two favorite cars out right now. I feel that the new porsche if/when it comes out, should be faster than the 360, but only marginally (lets not forget here that anything 0-60 in less than 5 seconds is balls to the wall acceleration) and top speed is about equal right now, only to be edged out by the porsche with the turbo S. but c'mon, the porsche really is shadowed by the 360's beauty and styling. personally, yes i know theres a lot of tradition behind the 911 shape, but i feel its time for an overhaul (and i dont just mean smoothing out the lines this time) but thats just me, and at the same time, it would be sad to see the 911 shape go. in all reality, you cant get any better than these two cars, so ill just pick in between, and go with koenigs KS360, which is a twin turbo modena, and is faster than the porsche.

Even without an 993 S model I beleive that the 993 already has an edge. At a starting price of about 20K less that the 360 Modena the Porsche's speed is the same, if not better as far as acceleration. I've never driven either of them, let alone a car so I can't compare the hadling. NOW TO THE QUESTION ABOUT THE S MODEL: The 993 S would be faster by about 10mph top speed and would have a even more sporty suspension. This to me rules out the Modena in this match.

I also forgot to mention that the Modena almost copies the 993's exterior with some slightly different styling and doesn't have the same kind of tradition (as far as looks) as the Porsche.

I also heard that as of next year the Porsche 996tt will be offered as an option with the new engine management system that will raise the output to 459hp. Has the 959 actually met its rival?

I believe that the 360 modena and 911 turbo are two very beautiful and divine supercars, although they each possess strengths in different areas; for instance, the 360 modena has a simply magnificent and up to date styling and brings a breath of fresh air to the Ferrari range as well as a large improvement in performance from the 355, whereas the 911 turbo is a bit quicker although it's styling is aging terribly. One more thought before I sign off, the 355( the 360's predecessor) was never compared with the 911 turbo, nor was it designed to compete with it, so where does this leave the 360 modena?.

First of all, the new 911 was introduced first so they had that body. The ferraris lines are nearly the same, the headlights are even close.

I feel that the 911 Turbo should have an advantage on street driving/racing because of its high torque at a large range of rpm. But on a race track, the 360 Modena might win by a length of the nose.

Pirana- What are you talking aobut 993? They already made the S model of that car and that was back in the mid 90's...

And also the 996 is already faster than the 360
0-60 0-100 0-150 1/4 mile Top speed
360- 4.6 11.1 29.6 13.1@110 175
996- 3.9 8.9 21.6 12.3@116 192

*both top speeds are Red Line Limited*
This is from the September Edition of Car & Driver, great article comparing the Aston DB7 Vantage, 996 Turbo and the 360 F-1
