I have posted this before. Of the 300 to be produced, 200 will be coupe and 100 will be roadster. Supply may also increase if there is demand.IP: Logged |

The car looks great, but I think Herr Piech has lost his mind if he thinks people are going to unload several hundred grand on a Volkswagen. Bentley Hunaudieres, yes; Bugatti Veyron, sure; Audi Rosemeyer, absolutely. I realize he's trying to move the VW brand upscale (hence, the 8-cylinder Passats and D1 concept), but this is too much too fast. Maybe if it's, ah, "bargain-priced" in keeping with the VW philosophy it could work, but at a volume of 300 cars, that's unlikely to happen. What I can't figure out is why Piech wants to cannibalize sales from his Bugatti/Bentley/Lamborghini brands. The car looks fantastic but ... if you're signing the cheque, wouldn't you really rather have a Ferrari F60 or Porsche Carrera GT (or any of the others)? Cool car ... questionable idea.

It is somewhat difficult to shed VWs cheap car image. However, the current prices for a Passat, Golf, or Jetta are quite expensive when compared to American offerings. The company does not have to make a cheap asupercar just to maintyain its image, but what it could benefit from is this W12. A Car which very few will own, but I guarantee that every single car will be sold. This is the chance of a lifetime to own Volkswagens finest and only true supercar. Plus the Italdesign looks ARE TO DIE FOR!!!! ------------------ Koenigsegg CC vs. Mclaren F1. Has the ultimate supercar met its match? IP: Logged |

I think the W12 will have more relevance to Audi than to the VW brand itself. While I too agree that it's a gorgeous car, I am curious as to what makes it special amongst the legions of other pending supercars? What will make it a Volkswagen, other than the badge on the nose? ESPECIALLY in relation to VW Group's other hyper-exclusive supercars (Veyron, Hunaudieres, Diablo, Rosemeyer). A lower price might make it unique, and within VW Group's brand strategy, might also firmly establish it as a Volkswagen. Although it's true VWs aren't rock-bottom priced (at least in North America), I'd wager that it's still more akin to sister-companies Seat and Skoda than Audi or Bentley. It's true - they'll probably sell all they can build ... but there's an enormous amount of competition in the offing. And certain other "can't-miss" corporate supercars have gone astray as historical precedent; unsold Jaguar XJ220s, anyone? ------------------

Unlike the Jaguar, this Volkswagen will indeed come with a W12 engine...12 cylinders is an automatic seller in most cases. The fact that it is the first production supercar with a W12 engine configuration is another plus. The car is a Volkswagen, so that will likely make somebody who wants the only super volkswagen very hapy. The price is relatively good for a hyper exotic. The car is styled by world famous Italdesign. The car will make other people shit in their pants screaming "A VOLKSWAGEN!!!!" Other people will have Diablos, you get a supercar that is almost as rare as a Mclaren F1!!!! Finally, who wouldnt want another coupe or convertible supercar in their garage? Keep this in mind also. Spyker sold 17 cars in just the 10 or so days at Birmingham Autoshow!!! The world is ripe for supercars, and withso many to choose from, its almost a guaranteed success. Someone out there will be crazy and unique enough to make the purchase. I think possibly all of them minus perhaps 10 or so at dealerships will be sold to buyers. The rest you can ship to my house ------------------ Koenigsegg CC vs. Mclaren F1. Has the ultimate supercar met its match? IP: Logged |

Not to be too much of a cynic but is there anything official on this?Is there a statement by Piech available on this? ------------------ "In those days the Noldor still roamed the Hither Lands, mightiest among the Children of Iluvatar, fair and tall, and their beautiful voices were still heard by mere mortals" IP: Logged |

This news is now outdated. VW is no longer going to produce this car. They have decided to produce the Bugatti Veyron instead.IP: Logged |
