I think the price of the car will make it very popular because of what your getting. I wouldn't mind seeing an AWD version and some increased HP. Hopefully there will be significant power and handling up grades available.

Countries have set limits for various reasons. I'm aware of Ferrari producing "Italian Only" models of their current production cars to meet a 2.0L engine limit(or the new owner pays a excessive tax penalty). I say let the people decide on what's right for their personal transportation needs. For me that would mean a Lamborghini or a Ferrari or a Saleen S7 or....

Does anyone know how heavy it is? If it already had a good weight to power ratio then a bigger engine might just add weight. But probably wouldnt.

Horsepower restriction legislation? Relax. Doesn't exist.

North America, Japan, the European Union - none of 'em have set limits on engine power, just emissions, noise, and safety.

The 280 bhp "ceiling" in Japan is purely a gentlemen's agreement between the various major manufacturers there. The Japanese Ministry of Transport plays no role in it. It's similar to the unspoken agreement between BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi in Germany to set 155 mph governors on their standard cars. I suspect the 280 bhp threshold in Japan is about to be broken because of the need to compete with European and American cars. Toyota already produces a 300 bhp V8 for its Lexus exports, and Nissan is planning a 340 bhp V8 for the next Infiniti Q45. Not to mention Honda's upcoming NSX.

As to the Italian 2.0 litre rule, that's not a tax PENALTY, it's a tax BENEFIT! Cars under 2.0 litres don't face the standard value-added tax placed on all other vehicles. This is party to encourage lower fuel consumption, but also to get people into smaller cars (if you've ever driven in an Italian city, you'll know space is at a premium). This is why virtually ever Italian manufacturer produces a lowball 2.0 diesel to snag lira-pinching customers. (Lamborghini did it with the Urraco, I believe, and Maserati does it with the Quattroporte).

thanx for the info....
personally i think that a 155mph limit seems somewhat reasonable, becasue unless you own a racetrack you cant drive at more that 150mph all day long...even the guys who drives in the autobhan..got enought traffic so they just cant stay flat foot all day, but i think that the gentlemen agree about the 28hp limit is dumb...as you say how they want to compete world wide with this handicap....
the only benefit i see here is lower insurance rates but no more than that...

Sorry about the mistake on it being regulated, not just an agreement.

Also, this isnt a true performance car, its just a sports car made to fit a price bracket so it wouldnt make total sense for it to have 300 hp.

This looks like a fun car to drive. Clean exterior and room for two..two s(no kids or grandkids). I think the interior looks great not just for the layout but tuse of color. On the pictures that I see the seats Gold color really pops out at you against the gray/silver of the rest of the interior. For $30,000 it looks like a good value. Now if that 0-60 time was closer to 5.0 sec.

Ur right, sometimes people on this site are talkin like a 30K car such as this or the integra should be supercars. that is impossible. The best car for 30K IMO, performance wise, is the Elise (at least that was the first off my head)

Well... an F-Body or Mustang Cobra would probably kill the new Z, but that's OK. I'd rather have something more lithe and sporty and better-handling anyways. I'd just have to shy away from Camaros at stoplights, that's all...

Maybe it's just me, but I think it's unwise of Nissan to release only one engine package with their new Z. $30k is still a lot of money for a sportscar... definitely more than someone who would buy the car only for its' image would be willing to fork over when there's loads of sporty-looking Eclipses and Integras out there. Although it's cool that few posers will get their hands on Zs that way, you've gotta say that a lot of the Japanese sports car sales lately have been in the sub-$20k range. It would be smart of Nissan to, say, put the old 240SX powertrain under the hood of the new Z and sell it for like $22k. After all, 160hp is still enough for an enthusiast machine (10 more than the original had ), and people would likely flock to such a bold car if it were in the same price range as Integras and Golfs and such. But that's just my opinion...

BTW, don't worry to much about the aftermarket capabilities of this car. If it's anything like Z cars of past, tuners will flock to it like bees to honey. And it'll look sooooo good with a bodykit on it.

I'm not sure that the New Z will be killed by Mustangs and Camaro's,
cuase it might have 300hp instead of the 260hp everyone's talking about, and I've heard it might cost as low as $25k

Yeah i think that to continue the sporting heritage of the Z nameplate, this car needs a bit of power. 260hp is enough to make it move pretty quickly, but it would be a supercar by no means.
