Returning to the 917 road-use discussion - are there ever exceptions made in the case of older cars? Are the noise and emissions rules loosened or lifted for cars with historical plates/registrations, which have certain limits on their use anyway?------------------ ____ ____ IP: Logged |

I don't know about Europe, but I think the laws in Canada and the U.S. are that a car's street legality depends upon whether it could have been registered when it was originally sold. This is definitely how it works for safety equipment (that's why you can register your '65 GTO and not have to retrofit it with 3-point seatbelts). I wonder if the new "show-and-go" legislation allows for certain race cars to be driven on public roads. I can't imagine an old F1 car being certified for street use ... ------------------

I'd take TVR's Speed twelve any day, 800bhp and only weighs 1062kg. ...But even professional LeMans drivers can't handle it. Another thing, 1000bhp is nothing new. Like someone said before, Max Power got 1000bhp out of a Nissan Skyline and a Toyota Supra I think. Even earlier, porsche had a sports racing car(the 917) that put out around 1100bhp in the late 70's early 80's. Same thing applies to some of the group B/Pikes peak rally cars. Audi actually had a 1000bhp out of a quattro but found it was too hard to drive. Accepted, but 1000+bhp from an 8-litre W16 engine is bound to need rebuilding less often than 1000+bhp from a 2.6 skyline six, or a 3-litre supra six, or a 2.1 Audi five. Nowadays it isn't hard to make a seriously fast car, just take something like a cahteram or westfield and put a half decent engine in. On the road, ye never gonna reach 240 mph and whats the point anyway, thats not real driving, anyone can do 240 on a straight bit of road, 30-120 is the time you really need. So just take ye Cahteram and slip a 260bhp 2.0 litre vauxhall engine in all for under £15,000 and you'll easily skin ferrari's, porsche's, although you'll probably only meet the odd boy racer in his nova. I'd rather be in a Veyron on a rainy day. Also, I thought only girls drove novas I can empathise with your final remark. In some ways I'm glad I only have a 1.8. [/B][/QUOTE] ------------------

I know 1000HP+ is nothing new, but the Veyron is stock. Those cars you named do have 1000HP+, but they aren't stock aren't stock. Some aren't even street legal. The Veyron is 1000HP stock and street legal. ------------------ Put it in gear, step on the gas, and tell the world to kiss your ass! IP: Logged |

What do you consider stock though? It's not like this Bugatti is going to have aftermarket parts you can bolt on I mean, I could take a stock (talking old school now) 1970 455 stage 1 with 425hp, strip it down and modify it to well over 1000 hp easy. Granted it would be a straight line racer, but......well, I can't really remember what my point was going to be, but, damn, 252mph, that's fast! lol I guess my point being (I just remembered ) is that those ratings on the skyline and supra may be modified, but are you really going to be able to modify the Veyron anymore than it already is?------------------ "I'm crazy, you all think it's a show." --Steven Wright IP: Logged |

Probably not What I mean is, "stock" is only what the factory puts out. Whenever I look at an engine, I look at the potential of it. I.E.: the ability to strip it down and build it stronger/or the availibility of 'bolt-ons'/aftermarket parts. Now, don't get me wrong, whether Bugatti offers extra parts for this or not, I don't think it's really going to need it, lol.....but it'd be a fun option ------------------ "I'm crazy, you all think it's a show." --Steven Wright IP: Logged |

I'm sure you could tune it somehow... Yeah, it would be kinda fun to tune a 1000HP stock engine. ------------------ Put it in gear, step on the gas, and tell the world to kiss your ass! IP: Logged |
