The new SLK was inspired by the little SLA concept, which was in turn fashioned after the SLR. The F-1 nose motif is being done on purpose to create a family resemblance, I think. As for the Aztek, GM's probably lost well over a billion dollars on it. They expected sales of around 100,000, but have so far sold maybe one third of that. I've read that GM is instructing its Pontiac dealers to drive demos around town so people will actually see them on public roads. Which no doubt explains why GM is pouring a few more hundred million into a total makeover of the Aztek for next year. That's just unheard-of. ------------------

I don't know what they were thinking when they did the design for the aztek. I just don't see how they expected it to sell. I wish I could go smack them all. They are killing the f-bod b/c of lack of interest, but they are going to pour money into the aztek, even though there is not interest in it. At least there is a loyal following to the f-bodies, and they will continue to sell, unlike the aztek.------------------ My Car Dealership: http://www.geocities.com/blackta00 '93 Camaro Z28 A4: Custom CAI, TB Bypass FS: $8,000 '92 VW Corrado VR6: EIP Intake Manifold, Neuspeed P-chip, Neuspeed Intake, Eibach Springs, 17" Konig Monsoons, Custom Exhaust, Stage III Clutch FS: $10,000 IP: Logged |

all i have to say is that we as humans take a little while to get used to a new thing. In a year or two after it comes out it may be considered good. Also relize that it is a great improvemetnn over the old one.------------------ Porsche lover down to the golf clubs. IP: Logged |

I don't think I will get used to it, I haven't gotten to like the current SLK and it has been around for a while. I think they are both ugly, and a bit slow for me.------------------ My Car Dealership: http://www.geocities.com/blackta00 '93 Camaro Z28 A4: Custom CAI, TB Bypass FS: $8,000 '92 VW Corrado VR6: EIP Intake Manifold, Neuspeed P-chip, Neuspeed Intake, Eibach Springs, 17" Konig Monsoons, Custom Exhaust, Stage III Clutch FS: $10,000 "Bowtie 'til the day I die" IP: Logged |

I own a '00 SLK, and I think it looks sporty, elegant and sophisticated - just as a Merc should. This projected creation, though, is the very antithetis of the above. It is ugly, brash and extremely vulgar. The front - and maybe there's a Freudian explanation for this - resembles nothing closer than a flaccid penis. I seriously hope MB reconsider this.------------------

the old slk, at least imo is too cutesey and therefore ugly, i dont mean to diss on your car, but that is my opinion. this one isnt too much better but it isnt the same feminine design and has cues of f1.------------------ Porsche lover down to the golf clubs. IP: Logged |

I just can't see how any guy would buy and SLK, it's way too much of a girls car. I also think they have an ugly rear end and it looks as if it sits on a lift kit or something.------------------ A&F Auto Sales '93 Camaro Z28 A4: Custom CAI, TB Bypass FS: $8,000 '90 Integra LS: 5-Speed, Exhaust, Springs, Konig Villain's FS: $4,000 "Bowtie 'til the day I die" IP: Logged |

I can only conclude there is also a Fruedian explanation for some peoples' confusion concerning gender and motor vehicles. Let's just say I'm sexually secure enough to be seen in a 'girlie' SLK. Now onto motoring, rather than psychoanalytical matters: Aesthetic issues are, by their nature, subjective. This holds true for my opinion about the proposed new SLK. But Mercedes is all about subtlety and continuity, and existing customers will have bought into the brand for this reason alone. That's just my opinion. Some people rave about the TT, for instance. Or indeed the Boxter, but I find it hard to tell which is the back and which is the front with these two models, though I accept that the Boxter is an excellent car. The SLK feature that won me over was the roof. We took it on a motoring holiday of Europe and still had enough space for luggage while stonking down through France and Spain in the sun... and whatever about the performance debate, I found 140 MPH to be quick enough. It was rock-steady at that pace too. Then there was the roof for the thunderstorms and the security. I wouldn't fancy leaving a ragtop in Barcelona, for example. I love it. ------------------

Yes, I, too love the idea of a hadtop convertible, like the SLK, SC430, and some new or planned models. As for Freud and such, I am no psychologist, but think the reason some cars are judged as female is that females simply like the cars' appearance, enjoy driving the cars, and make up a good majority of that cars' owners. I don't think of the SLK as a females' car. As for the new SLK, it is simply put a short SLR or SLA. It does not look as good as the current SLK, and I cannot forgive it for being a smaller SLR, the soon to be greatest Benz ever. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Hi all, This is my first time visiting this site, was looking for slk on yahoo. I think this new SLK is very beautiful, especially from the side and maybe the back (wish they had some pix from the back). Since SLK is my fave car.. i envy those of you owning one the SLR family resemblance is too much though, they should make it resemble the new SL more since it IS SLkompact... otherwise I consider this car my dream car (besides 360 spider + diablo 6.0 of course). Got till 2004 to save up ------------------

Oh by the way, for any of you that have owned an SLK for a length of time can you tell me how life with it is? Do you get envious stares when you remove that top at a stoplight? Do you love your car or do you regret ever buying it.. I currently drive a 2001 lexus IS 300 with only 2400 miles. The reason I ask is because SLK has always been my dream car and I WILL trade my car in sooner or later for an SLK, I just need to think whether to go 1) sell the IS and use the money to buy a used SLK on ebay or 2) save up for a year and buy a brand new year 2004 SLK with all the right options. Oh and if anyone wants to trade their reasonably well-maintained SLK (lucky you) with my IS300 please email me ------------------
