Well, one of my friends at school owned a SLK, a silver one. He was quite happy with that car, I think he never had a mechanical problem or with the power top....

about girlish cars, if you look at them they dont have any bold design features to them. for example the diablo has hard edges and a low slung look that combine for a bold look. also look at smooth lined TVRs, they probably wouldnt appeal to most women because they have an unusual shape and many have grills that inspire a screaming look. These two make the cars design bold, not subtle.

Girlie car?

0 - 60 mph in 4.5 seconds sound like a girlie car? That's how fast my 2002 SLK 32 AMG goes, verified August 2001 by Car & Driver.

I think the SLK is cool. Before this one, I had a 1999 SLK 230 a couple years ago, was impressed enough to get another one -- this time, on the fastest MB ever...

peace out...

i think the new one is even uglier than the old one. Merc needs to make the car look more aggressive.

Well, 0-60 in 4.5 s is very good, but still older SLK are very slow compared to the M roadster , etc.
And even the new ones doesnt look good to me.

Both gen's of the SLK are ugly, but the new one is better.

The Mustang USED to be a girly car, especially the previous generation, but they're better now (I am, of course, excluding the V6s from that last comment).

As for the SLK, it's definitely a girl's car. Out of the 10, maybe 15 SLKs I have seen in my lifetime, only a couple of them had male drivers. All the rest of them had middle-aged females behind the wheel. They're outdated, ugly, and they can't keep up with the Z3 anymore (0-60 mph in 6.7 seconds, compared to the new Z3 3.0i's 5.9). Put that on the list next to the Beetle, Neon, and VW Cabrio.

------------------

0-60 in 3.8 seconds. A top speed of 214 mph. Fear me.

OK, maybe the regular SLK has girls riding it, but the 2002 SLK 32 AMG changes everything!

I have a 1999 Porsche Carrera also. My SLK 32 beats that! Without breaking it in. I won't push it yet (but you can feel the power) till I get 1,000 miles on it, but Car and Driver did test it at 4.5 seconds 0 - 60 mph, and C&D compared it against the BMW M3 AND Vette in August 2001 and found the SLK 32 equals or exceeds the other 2 in ALL performance categories.

MaxMetal, I paid $65k for it. The base is $55k, but I bought $4k of options and I had to pay a premium over sticker price, unfortunately. That's my only regret, but I am super happy with the SLK 32.

P.S., I traded in a regular SLK 230 which I bought 3 years ago, which I intended as just a fun little putt-around car with good quality & service (the usual Mercedes features), nothing sportscar serious & my wife even drove it. But the SLK 32 AMG changes everything!

Next year, I'm going to also get a used Dodge Viper for a real serious sportscar that nobody can call a girlie car. But, even for apples-and-oranges, I stand by the SLK 32 AMG in performance!

The Viper is definately not a chick car. Your lucky to get a Viper.

I don't know about the SLK being a chick car. I not as much of a chick car as the Beetle, ect..... I say it's about half and half.
