OK, a 2+2 coupe is fine, but not a sedan. Which is it going to be, b/c that pic of the blue car is a coupe. You started the topic saying something about a 4-door, but showed no pic or anything of a 4-door. Where is the sedan that you're talking about?Again I say that Porsche just wants to become a mainstream company, and with this they are going to lose their supercar status. And guess who's not going to pay them 100+K for their cars, that's right nobody will pay those prices for the high-end car within a mainstream car company. Look at the Z8, it is not really selling very well is it, and the same thing will happen to Porsche, just wait. ------------------ A&F Auto Sales '93 Camaro Z28 A4: Custom CAI, TB Bypass FS: $8,000 '90 Integra LS: 5-Speed, Exhaust, Springs, Konig Villain's FS: $4,000 "Bowtie 'til the day I die" IP: Logged |

I forgot to add that people just used to say "I drive a Porshce", and now they are going to say that and people are going to ask them which one. You don't have to do that if you say I own a Ferrari or Lamborghini.------------------ A&F Auto Sales '93 Camaro Z28 A4: Custom CAI, TB Bypass FS: $8,000 '90 Integra LS: 5-Speed, Exhaust, Springs, Konig Villain's FS: $4,000 "Bowtie 'til the day I die" IP: Logged |

True, and I now understand I should have made this clearer. When i said 4-door I meant more of something like a Golf-sized hatchback. I guess I should have said 5-door (which is how ppl call hatchbacks in Europe... hmm in general the whole 4-door, 5-door issue is complicated..) I am gonna make some things clearer with a revision of the article tomorrow...

Actually, alex, here's the upshot with Porsche's plans:Last month the board had a meeting wherein they decided to add another model line, using the new Cayenne V8. However, there are 2 competing proposals as to what this model should be. One is a 2+2 928 replacement; the other is a sedan (with notchback/fifth door). Herr Wiedeking is apparently rooting for the sedan. I don't know when the final decision will be made. However, I suspect the reason why the Cayenne is premiering in Detroit rather than Frankfurt is simply because almost all will be sold in America. It seems Porsche's eager to be the next BMW - a phase they went through in the late 1980s. ------------------

Porsche should stay true to its sports-car reputation. We don't need another BMW, Audi has taken care of that. I hope Wiedeking changes his mind about the 4-door. I would really like to see the 928 reborn with the Cayenne's engine. ------------------ My Site - Car-A-Week - This week is the Dodge Viper. IP: Logged |

I know you will hate me for saying this, but I am really looking forward to seeing a Porsche Saloon more so than a 2+2 GT. Sadly though, the heart's content would be a rear-engined Saloon, based on the 911. And from what we've been seeing, it seems like, if it does materialize, it will be front engined. The 911-formula is what has kept Porsche living. I think they should develop more models on that formula.------------------ Women are important, very important... but my Guru once told me that cherish what you will have for life... I think that Porsche is really losing its heritage. First came the 996. It was larger, it had more creature comforts. It did NOT have an air cooled engine, round headlights, and it lost a lot of that Porsche shape. Yes, I realize that the 996 911s are great sports cars by themselves, but still not the same. Then there was the Boxster. It was a great marketing idea, and it continues to sell very well. While it's a great car, it's a major change for Porsche. And now there is the new SUV, the Cayenne, which is, in my opinion, butt ugly, and a complete mistake for Porsche. I realize this is going to be a fast SUV, but still it really ruins Porsche's reputation for purity. And now a 4-door Porsche? It seems impossible, and I hope that these rumors are all false.------------------

These rumours are pretty strong, and have essentially been confirmed by Porsche boss Wendelin Wiedeking in several interviews.Roo, your opinion of Porsche could be true, but the Boxster wasn't really a departure for the company. It's more of a successor to the 968 or (if you want to reach back) the 916. ------------------

Absolutely right. quote: Originally posted by alex: hmm in general the whole 4-door, 5-door issue is complicated..)
A 5 door is a hatchback, a 4 door is a Saloon. Well it is over in Europe anyway. ------------------ IP: Logged | |
