It looks as if a 4-Door Porsche may be closer than ever. Take a look at our full report here: http://www.fantasycars.com/1/2001/Porsche4door/porsche4door.html and then let the discussion begin! [This message has been edited by alex (edited July 05, 2001).] IP: Logged |

I was curious as to where you foung this pic, Alex. A few weeks ago, I came across the very picture in some forum and posted a link to it and we proceeded with the discusion. We concluded that it was a fake, though the idea did intruige us. I wanted to know where you got this info from, since it would be of a lot more substance if it wasn't from the site I got it from. Two different unrelated sites with the same information does talk a lot for the information, afterall. Here is the link to our discusion in the "Porsche SUV" discusion. And here is the link to the site were I got the same picture.I think it would be awesome if the four door was rear engined, as the site speculates. It would then make more sense for the sedan/saloon being based on a 911 than the rumored GT coupe. I think the boring saloons of today need some serious flair, and a rear engined one might so the trick. ------------------ Women are important, very important... but my Guru once told me that cherish what you will have for life... I had some other info about another Porsche/VW product. Here it is. Looks like it will be the entry Porsche, if it does come through. Any news about this?------------------ Women are important, very important... but my Guru once told me that cherish what you will have for life... My Little Fiat Uno Turbo back home. IP: Logged |

Interesting. Porsche doesn't seem to be afraid of becoming a mainstream manufacturer like BMW or Mercedes-Benz...they seem to be pushing for more interesting, different products.I wish they'd stopped with the Boxster ------------------ My Site - Car-A-Week - Currently under construction! that bugstter is bs. id be careful about what you read at hte autobahn.com. Anyways, here is a topic i made on that when i saw that bugstter article. uh, never mind, it isnt there anymore. do the topics get deleted after being dead a while? Also, i think that porsche is going in the wrong direction by having cars with 4 doors. i just hope that the cayeene will be like the Lambo SUV that no one knows about and that the next porsche line will be the GT Coupe. ------------------ Porsche lover down to the golf clubs. I see your points guys, but as long as Porsche makes what they are known to make best(911, and maybe also Boxster, but mostly 911!!), I have no problem in them making newer models. As long as they keep their exclusivity high, and you can do that with sedans amd SUVs, I have no problem with it. Start selling cheaper sedan and SUV derivatives, then there's a problem. Also, let nothing of this enthusiasm hinder the 911. Let it remain what it is - a mistake that has been perfected to its fullest.------------------ Women are important, very important... but my Guru once told me that cherish what you will have for life... it does hae some real stories but i think they try to make hype that has no basis whatsoever. We agreed a while ago in the topic that i made that there was no way there wuold be that car.------------------ Porsche lover down to the golf clubs. Whatever Porsche decides to do with a fourth model line, I hope that the end result looks nothing like the picture displayed on the page. It looks like someone grafted 911 skin onto a Maranello. Whatever comes out next should be a fresh new design, not another member of the Boxster/911 Clone Consortium.------------------

You know that by default only topics from the last 45 days are shown, right? To show all topics, change that select screen near the top right. Anyway, I wouldn't mind a 2+2 like that, though it says "Ferrari" to me. The 4 door on the other hand is not the best idea, IMO, but we'll see.------------------ IP: Logged |

I think Porsche will definitely go with the 928 replacement, but the 4-door is still up in the air. As Alex says, we'll probably get a better picture at Frankfurt.Porsche came within inches of green-lighting a sedan 10 years ago, so they're obviously waiting to see how the Cayenne does. This month's AUTOMOBILE magazine has a short interview with Porsche boss Wendelin Wiedeking, and he discusses the new SUV. He's clearly in favour of broadening Porsche's range. ------------------

Hey Alex ... you never did tell us where you got the pis from. Im curious to know. I've looking at this for a while now and have only found that one picture at that link I gave. Where did you get it from. Do they have a pic of a four door? Please give us a link to the site where you got that pic from.------------------ Women are important, very important... but my Guru once told me that cherish what you will have for life... hmm the question about the pic is bugging me as well. It has been sent to me by 2 site visitors and it has made a circle around various magazines across Europe. (I've seen it in French and Greek print magazines and it was also on the Dannish Bilfo mag (http://www.bilfo.dk/) as shown in the link madtherchot put in the Porsche SUV topic)This is the reason I introduced the pic as "The pic shown here is the currently suggested shape of this 2+2 coupe" on the article. I am taking the pic rather cautiously but the actual fact of a big Porsche 2+2 coupe being introduced should be considered certain. Latest interesting thing I heard is that Porsche won't be unveiling the Cayenne in Frankfurt but would push it back to Detroit in January, 2002. Not sure what this means as far as unveiling something else in Frankfurt is concerned. About the 4-door now, it has been suggested that the VW/Porsche partnership could be expanded further from the Cayenne/Colorado platform, meaning that the next generation Golf would form the basis for a Porsche hatchback. This rumor came about around a year ago and I havent heard much about it since then. Overall, I fully expect a 4th Porsche model line soon. And I would say that the, sometimes, conflicting news we hear should probably be attributed to the different views within Porsche. IP: Logged |
