Sorry all you major league Porsche fans (especially P!R@N@) but I think except for the nice turbo Porsche is goin' down fast. The Boxster looks awful and the minvan and SUV idea.... well that is really screwed up. ------------------ My fantasy car site: http://ladiesman99799.tripod.com/myfantasycars/ IP: Logged |

There was talk of Porshce building a 4-door sports car, but it was eventuallu cancelled. I think building a 4-door car is actually better than building a SUV.IP: Logged |

Just read that Porsche is set to take on its German rivals with a Boxster-based hard-topped two-seater aimed at stealing sales from the likes of the Mercedes CLK and BMW M Coupé.Sources say that the manufacturer is working on development of the model and has been conducting focus studies with coupé owners in order to deliver the ultimate driver's car. The new Porsche is expected to be powered by a 230bhp 2.7-litre engine and cost around £30,000. Four-wheel drive is also a possibility, presenting a serious threat to Audi's class-leading TT.

For me the Boxster is one of the few cars Porsche makes that I truly respect. I mean, the normal 911 is not a design marvel or a ground-breaking performer, the 911 convertible has nothing on the Boxster S, the 911 GT3 manages to match a non-Z06 Corvette (wow), the upcoming Cayenne is a laugh, the 911 Turbo is an awesome machine indeed but with an automatic??? - we're talking 400+hp Porsche supercar not a Mustang, and....and....that's it. Oh, and of course the 911 GT2, that should be quite interesting. But in the realm of "there's a car I (or many people) could one day buy" - the Boxster rules.------------------ Visit http://www.fantasycars.com/sedans for the wildest time you've had in the last 5 minutes. The boxster is an interesting car. Even tho it is not very Porsche, it has a mid-engine rather then rear engine that we are familiar of. But somehow i feel that it is more Porsche then the 911. I'll very likely to choose the Boxster S then the 911 convertable. Don't ask me why, it is just a feeling.I don't think it is the Boxster's fault that Porsche's sells drop. Just as both happened together, doesn't mean that they are releied. As for the Cayenne...well, i don't know. I think Porsche should spend the money to play in Le Mans rather then putting the money to where it is not belong, both money for Cayenne, and SUV for Porsche. Doesn't matter how much hp it has, it is a wrong product at the wrong time. Wrong product as for people who look for SUV won't look at Porsche, and people who look for Porsche won't look at SUV. Wrong time as we are already at the peek of the SUV craze, and rumor has it the armerican economy (which where this SUV craze is happening) is going to cool down, which mean not as many rich people going around looking for expensive gas guzzler. What do you think? ------------------

You may think the Cayenne is the wrong product, but believe me, it'll sell like crazy and make Porsche a huge wad of cash (and thereby ensure the company's independence). The market for more expensive cars (or SUVS) is, as they say in economics, fairly inelastic. That is, economic cooling has little effect on that end of the market. Just as many people (wrongly) questioned whether BMW was throwing their money away on the X5 (BMW builds an SUV?! - impossible!), some people are saying the same about the Cayenne. I disagree. Firstly, every man, woman, and animal in the Industrialized World will know about this vehicle when it goes on sale. Suddenly, the word "Porsche" will be synonymous with "SUV". Secondly, many people who might otherwise have never considered purchasing a Porsche (i.e., a 2 seater sportscar) will be strolling around Porsche showrooms. Thirdly, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Lincoln have clearly demonstrated that there's huge potential for high-end SUVs. People want 'em, and Porsche should therefore steal quite a few sales from the aforementioned brands. Perhaps the Cayenne is indeed an incongruous product compared to previous Porsche offerings, but that doesn't mean it won't be a big success. And as for the economy ... relax. A minor slowdown means we'll only return to 1998 levels. Still a relative boom, just not record-breaking. ------------------

i too think that there would be a market for the Cayenne. Its just strange to see Porsche moving into the 4WD Wagon market.------------------ www.hsv.com.au IP: Logged |
