Replacing the old five-speed automatic and supercharged V8 of the CLS55 with the sublimely smooth seven-speed gearbox and more-powerful, normally-aspirated V8 for the CLS63 AMG was no easy task. For all the gory details, turn to the E63 AMG (W211) page. More power, less torque, more gears, more brakes, more money (but just barely) just about sums up the new CLS63, which otherwise inherits the CLS55's virtues and foibles, and her pretty curves. Aside from the exterior proportions, the CLS also features larger, staggered 19-inch wheels, wrapped in sticky 255/35 ZR19 front and 285/30 ZR19 rear tires. With a little quicker steering, it all works to set the CLS apart as the E's more sporting twin, but overall the driving experience is understandably similar. For only a few grand more, the decision is yours. - by Traian Popescu
